I seek a part-time opportunity to prove my worth as a writer. To me, writing is a good pass time as it has always been from my days in primary school. A strange thing happened, though, in my secondary school - I balanced my Arts and Science grades, hence the Joint Admission Board (JAB) got misled to select me as a prospective scientist. I actually graduated (in 1997) with a BSc. (Mathematics/Chemistry)
I currently have a general Managerial position at a Motor Vehicle dealership in Nairobi. Alongside my administrative roles, I schedule events for company officials.
Between March 2008 and August 2010, I held a flexible part-time Liaison Officer’s Position with an INGO, Premiere Urgence. I worked closely with Premiere Urgence’s Proposal Development Officer for Africa in reviewing grant Proposals destined for traditional funds such as USAID, DFID and French Government to mention but a few. I served to Panel-beat official documents that required flawless English, normally destined to governmental and non-governmental recipients.
I represented the NGO at networking meetings including those of UN Office of Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) at the Kenya Humanitarian Forum (KHF). I did follow ups on work-permits, visa applications and travel arrangements for expatriate staff and their spouses. I helped run errands for expatriate staff as well as guided them in cultural and legal issues.
Having served in non-traditional educational institutions (for ten years) where the student is the client – and the client is King – I have evolved as a diplomatic, objective and courageous individual with an affinity in networking. As a tutor of verbal and quantitative reasoning (in subjects such as SAT, GRE and GMAT) I developed an analytical personality that puts me at ease with all humanity.
Though I am a graduate of Mathematics and Chemistry, I am, naturally, a polished writer and speaker of English. Occasionally, I have acted as a facilitator and moderator at workshops. I am an above average story-teller and able to deliver a speech to any given audience, having practised this skill in my varied teaching and volunteer roles.
Finally, as a long-serving member of our Church Council, shaping the vision, drafting the agendas (and taking minutes) of meetings and handling classified documents, I have got used to governance by persuasion and consultation.
My administrative duties vary from paid to probono and run through the week from Monday to Sunday.
